Collection: Vintage kokeshi dolls

Kokeshi are traditional Japanese dolls made of turned and hand-painted wood, which originated in the 19th century in the mountain villages of Tōhoku. Originally crafted by woodturners (kijishi) and sold as souvenirs to visitors of hot springs (onsen), they have over time become a symbol of well-wishes for the health and happiness of children.

On Temae, the kokeshi dolls offered in the vintage section are authentic pieces, sourced and selected one by one, rather than manufactured or imported new like the rest of the shop. Each piece is one-of-a-kind: once sold, it will not be restocked. As with any vintage object, they may show slight marks due to their age and storage, which are always visible and detailed in the photos of each product page before purchase.
