A sōsaku kokeshi with a bun and subtle patterns

Vintage turned wood kokeshi, featuring a face with closed eyes and a hairstyle pulled up into a bun, adorned with a small red bead. The body, kept in the natural tone of the wood, features small, subtle patterns and a black parasol fixed to the side, held by a small handle.

Unlike kokeshis from the eleven traditional regional lineages, a sōsaku ("creative kokeshi") piece is not tied to a codified style or motif: each artisan develops their own aesthetic.

This kokeshi is 16 cm tall and bears the stamp of its artist, Miyashita Hajime (宮下はじめ), on the back of its base.
