Japanese curtain (noren) in cotton, maneki-neko and welcome motif
A cotton noren with a maneki-neko motif and welcome inscription
This Japanese cotton curtain (noren) features, on a black background, the word いらっしゃいませ (irasshaimase, "welcome" in Japanese) next to three stacked maneki-neko with their paws raised, each holding a round coin, with the top one bearing the character 福 (fuku, fortune).
Traditionally hung at the entrance of Japanese shops and homes, the noren marks the passage from one space to another while allowing air and light to circulate: hung in an entryway, a hallway, or a kitchen doorway, it dresses a threshold without needing to close a door, and offers a welcoming greeting and good fortune brought by the maneki-neko with every passage.
A 100% cotton fabric, made in Japan
Composed of two cotton panels suspended by 5 fabric loops to slide onto a rod (not included), this noren parts easily as you pass through: the maneki-neko and inscription motif recomposes as soon as the two panels meet. It measures 83 x 90 cm.
Made in Japan.
